Boston Red Sox shut down Baltimore Orioles again thanks to Henry Owens

They’ll try to avoid a three-game sweep against the Red Sox in the teams’ final meeting of the season Sunday in Boston. He’s shaken off the common issues that plagued him in his previous major league stints this season, giving up just one walk while striking out six in seven innings of work. The 35-year-old struck out 10 in each of his first two starts and yielded a total of three runs in 14 innings while walking one. “They deserve so much credit for picking themselves up and making this happen”.

Boston left-hander Robbie Ross Jr. earned his sixth save with a clean ninth. “They all stepped up and did a very good job”. “It fires you up”.

Boston Red Sox’s Henry Owens, right, throws to first base on an… “He’s probably got six innings left”.

The Orioles concluded their 2015 road schedule at Boston’s Fenway Park September 25-27.

“It’s been really hard for us, especially these three days when we haven’t scored”, tough-luck loser Ubaldo Jimenez said.

“It was scripted in an unbelievable way to end the game the way it did”, Lovullo said. “We’ve been playing to hopefully get a spot in the playoffs”. It’s their most losses since 51 in 2011.

Boston took the lead in the fifth when Holt walk and Rutledge doubled. Rutledge grounded out, third baseman M.Machado to first baseman Pearce, R.Castillo scored, B.Holt to third.

The Red Sox chose to take on the Orioles on Saturday afternoon without a usual starter.

In pregame news, Clay Buchholz will throw a bullpen on Monday, but it’s unlikely he’ll appear in a game this season, Lovullo said.

“To say you’re going to shut out the Baltimore Orioles for three straight games, I would have never believed it”, said interim manager Torey Lovullo. The team he helped turn into a three-time world champion lined up in front of the dugout, and Larry Lucchino greeted them all.

The last home stand of the season started flat and ended with an illustrious three game shutout tossed at the Orioles.

Baltimore came into Boston riding a hot streak that got it to. Orsillo will be replaced by Dave O’Brien, who has done Red Sox radio for nine seasons and viewed as a talented guy. Red Sox 4, Orioles 0. Sox 8-0. Jonathan Aro took to the mound to close the game out in the 9th. The Sox would finish at 82-80 in that case. 432 versus the Tigers in 2010 (minimum 40 plate appearances).

The Rays have won five of their last seven games. Even the Padres knew months before Orsillo did that the Red Sox were letting him go. “That’s just a tribute to these young players and the veteran players”.
