Boston wins third straight

Kansas City has posted five win streaks of five or more games this season – tied for second most in Major League Baseball (Cardinals – 6).

The Royals entered the series against last-place Boston with a 14½-game lead in the division.

Center fielder Adam Eaton, third baseman Tyler Saladino, first baseman Adam LaRoche and catcher Geovany Soto all had two hits for Chicago. The Royals also made an error in Boston’s three-run second, when Escobar just failed to field a relay throw from the outfield. He spent the previous three seasons working in the New England Patriots media relations department after a stint at the Taunton Daily Gazette, where he covered everything from Little League baseball to the Boston Red Sox.

Boston added two runs in the fourth to make it 5-1.

David Ortiz went 2-for-4 with a homer last night, and is now batting. The ending result was a double into the right-center gap, plating two runs and ending the inning when Morales was thrown out at home.

Holt, the Red Sox’s only All-Star this year, is batting.

He tried just that, squaring around on the first pitch from Royals starter Edinson Volquez. The Royals were unsuccessful to the Angels 4-3 the last time Ventura pitched. However, Kansas City has won 64% (29-16) of its games when taking a late lead. For some reason, third base coach Mike Jirschele sent Infante home, and Bradley gunned him down trying for a home run. He’s been on the disabled list since early July because of a strained groin. Omar Infante dumped a single into right.

“No aspect of our game was tremendously good tonight”, manager Ned Yost said.

The stakes in 2015 are far lower than they were a year ago. “I thought the ball was off the wall to start with, the way he turned his back, but it was definitely a tough catch”.

The right-hander didn’t get any help nor a decision Tuesday despite allowing one run with seven strikeouts in six innings of a 3-1 win at Cincinnati.

He likes to call the shots: When the Tigers lost their first six games in 2002, Dombrowski, who had just taken over as team president, fired the general manager and took that role as well. Hosmer stepped in and punched a single to the opposite field, plating two runs and tying the game at six. Bogaerts sacrificed, pitcher Volquez to first baseman Hosmer, Sandoval to third.

Castillo has an eight-game hitting streak. He only recorded the one strikeout, but that’s against no walks, while the Royals spent the entire game pounding the ball into the ground against him.

Tazawa suffered his sixth blown save of the season, allowing four runs in the ninth to turn a two-run lead into a two-run deficit.

4 runs, 6 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on.

Reliever Heath Hembree filled in for Owens in the ninth inning, pitching a flawless 1-2-3 stanza.

Owens is the second Red Sox rookie left-hander to go eight innings and allow one earned run this week.

Mike Moustakas locked his eyes on the diamond as Sunday’s ninth inning began, his body coiled like a spring, his mind unwilling to admit the unlikelihood of him appearing in the game again.
