Bouchard Downs Giorgi to Reach Hobart Semifinals
Dominika Cibulkova awaits in the semi-finals, after the third seed defeated Kiki Bertens 7-5 6-3 in a match that lasted over seven hours due to weather disruptions.

Bouchard, who struggled mightily in 2015 and has fallen to 48th in the world rankings after topping out at No. 5, cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 win over second-seeded Italian Camila Giorgi Thursday to reach the semifinals of the Hobart International tournament. “But it’s the same for both players so I can’t really complain, that is the way tennis is”.
“(It was) my best match of past year”, Bouchard said of her meeting with Cibulkova as she prepared for a rematch.
The poor weather that has blighted the tournament continued on Thursday, and it was past 11pm local time when Bouchard – who earlier helped to clear water off the courts – clinched the win.
“This is why I came here, to get some more matches under my belt and that’s what has happening so this is giving me a lot of confidence”.
The world No. 47 said her Hobart campaign is helping rejuvenate her previous form.
The second semi-final will be played between Alize Cornet and Johanna Larsson after Cornet benefited from a walkover when Mona Barthel withdrew through illness.
The Guernsey-born 23-year-old was 6-7 (3/7) 6-2 3-1 up on the Romanian fourth seed when rain ended the evening’s play, meaning the second-round encounter will conclude on Thursday.
