Bourne Again: ‘Jason Bourne’ Dominates The Box Office Once More
After sitting the last entry out, Matt Damon brought the money to the box office as he returned as Jason Bourne for the fifth movie in the series (and the second highest opening weekend, with an estimated $60 million). The female-driven comedy stars Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn as a trio of moms looking to have a good time.

Matt Damon returns to his most iconic role in Jason Bourne. Even with critics not being as happy with the movie, it would seem that the audiences were much more willing to give the film a chance and seemed to like what they saw.
Jason Bourne marks Damon’s first appearance as the character since 2007 – when he starred in The Bourne Ultimatum, the third film in the series. But given all we hear about the breakneck rate of technological advancement, it’s notable how little the gadgetry in these tech-centric films has changed in two decades. This weekend’s other new release “Bad Moms”, earned $23.4 million during its debut weekend. The film cost $120 million to make.
HOLLYWOOD-Comedy or action: those were the new choices for moviegoers at the box-office this weekend, as “Bad Moms” and “Jason Bourne” did battle with last week’s champ, “Star Trek Beyond”.
“This was a classic case of counter-programming”, said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst for comScore. “Star Trek Beyond”, the newest film in the “Trek” franchise and which was in its second weekend, placed second, grossing $24 million. Domestic numbers are up around 30 percent from the same frame past year, when Paramount’s Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation scored $55.5 million.
Overseas takings were equally hefty, with $50.1 million amassed from over 46 markets, storming its way into the number one spot in 27 of those territories.
Jason Bourne has taken out the competition at the North American box office with a $60 million (£45.3 million) debut.

Nerve, Lionsgate’s (NYSE:LGF) thriller starring Emma Roberts and Dave Franco, took in an estimated $15-M over its 5-day debut after hitting theaters Wednesday.
