Bournemouth have reached a deal with Wolves to sign striker Benik Afobe

And Howe has moved swiftly for Afobe in a bid to fend off competition from Norwich City and is hopeful of making the 22-year-old his second signing this month.

Speaking after the 2-1 victory against Birmingham City in the FA Cup third round, Howe said: “A deal has been agreed by us”. The player will have to have a medical so we are hopeful we can get the deal done in time for Tuesday.

He will bring pace, strength and goals hopefully.

The fee surpasses the Cherries’ previous record fee, the £8m paid for Ipswich Town defender Tyrone Mings last summer. “Losing Callum was a huge blow to us and Josh has had hamstring problems so it has left us very light when you consider we are a Premier League team”.

But sources have told Mirror Football that they believe Afobe’s representatives have already agreed a deal with Eddie Howe’s Cherries.

“The players we have here proved they can do a job – [Glenn] Murray came off the bench and scored and it was good to see Lee Tomlin score”.

Afobe has since continued his fine goalscoring form this season and has netted 10 times so far, taking his total to 23 goals in 48 games since his move to Molineux.

The home side arrive at the fixture on the back of two wins on the bounce in the Championship, and will be hoping to translate their league form into a cup run, starting this Saturday.
