Believe it or not, if Blackstar does indeed debut at the top of the album chart, it will mark David Bowie’s very first #1 album in the States.

A memorial concert is also planned for New York’s Carnegie Hall in March.
Fans have interpreted the timing of the release, as well as the melancholy and even morbid themes of the album’s music, as the artist’s way of foreshadowing his imminent death.
Millions have been mourning the death of musician David Bowie this week, but it seems the singer himself was against the idea of a public memorial or funeral.
David Bowie was planning to make another album after Backstar because he believed he had more time.
Now, nearly 5,000 fans have signed an online petition which is entitled: “Say no to David Bowie dead”.
Bowie died from cancer aged 69, two days after releasing his 25th album, Blackstar.
Bowie’s passing was confirmed on Monday (January 11), with a post from the singer’s official social media stating: “David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18-month battle with cancer”. Van Hove says Bowie told him about his illness during the early stages of working on the show, in November 2014, and asked him to keep the information secret.
It’s a sentiment echoed by the producer of Blackstar Tony Visconti who called the record a “parting gift”, to his fans.
“I saw a man fighting”.
And when Bowie shot the video for “Lazarus”, he was seen lying in a hospital bed with bandages.

The music icon is said to have expressed a wish to “go without any fuss” before his death on Sunday.
