Bowie wins posthumous Brit Icon award

Annie Lennox led an emotional tribute to David Bowie, describing him as a “cutting edge, artistic genius”, while introducing the BRITs Icon award in honour of the late star.
Bowie was awarded the Icon Award which was accepted on his behalf by one of his friends, actor Gary Oldman. “We are all coming to terms with the magnitude of David’s passing”, began Oldman.
The 57-year-old said his friend was the embodiment of the word icon, adding, “He emphasised originality, exploration, in his own way he also reminded us to never take ourselves too seriously”.
New Zealand singer Lorde performed Bowie’s hit song Life on Mars in tribute to the singer after the award was announced. The performance was a scattershot mess of a thing, with Gaga doing her craziest Bowie impression in Ziggy-dyed hair.
Building from In the wake of Bowie’s death last month Lorde was one of many prominent musicians to eulogise the legend, recounting the night they met at a Vogue event.
