Bowles wants Jets to go back to ‘algebra’ on offense
“Yeah, I do think I’m the right man for the job”, Fitzpatrick said to Cosentino.

“The next day you always think about that”, Fitzaptrick said when asked of the Jets abandoned the run too soon against the Texans. Coach Todd Bowles, whose public and private demeanor are both placid bordering on monotonous, ripped into the Jets following a listless 24-17 loss to the Houston Texans last Sunday. RB Chris Ivory hasn’t been up to the task – he has just 219 yards on 81 carries during the Jets’ 1-4 skid – but third-down RB Bilal Powell looked fresh in his return following a four-game absence last week, when he accounted for 89 yards on nine touches.
“We’ve just got to start from scratch”, the wideout said. NY has punted on each of its first possessions the past three games, and each of their first two drives the past two games.
Injuries on the line and inconsistency all around have contributed to the team’s struggles. “And so we’re trying to get back to that”. “And I think we’re getting back to basics”. “Switch up the mojo a little bit”.
Sluggish starts have been a factor.
“It’s not offensive thing”, Bowles said. But Gailey doesn’t necessarily think the move away from the basics in offense is exclusively to blame. “It’s a team thing”. The Jets waived the DE/OLB on Monday and he was claimed by the Dolphins on Tuesday, so he’ll be back at MetLife for Sunday’s divisional contest.
Also, Fitzpatrick shouldn’t have to shoulder the blame for the offense. NY lost both of those games and has come up on the short end in four of their last five.
And, Fitzpatrick will be right back under center – just as he expected. “You tinker with certain things on the side, one way or the other, but the game plan will be the game plan”. Rookie Devin Smith, the team’s second-round draft pick, has not yet been able to establish himself as a consistent vertical threat. We shall see this Sunday and during the remainder of the 2015 regular season. “We’re preparing to play without him”. “We’ve got to go jumpstart ourselves and not wait on a big play to jumpstart us”.
It doesn’t sound good for Darrelle Revis’ prospects of facing the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. Mangold sustained a deep gash to his right (snapping) hand that required seven stitches.
Davis returned to practice Thursday after missing Wednesday due to a personal issue. “I don’t know if that’s exactly the bandage or whatever you want to call it that he’ll use in the game, but what he had on today allowed him to go out there and be fairly effective.”…

Wide receiver Brandon Marshall said Fitzpatrick brought the idea of the close shave to a group of Jets players.
