Entering this season, Bowman made it clear he feels stronger and ready to prove he’s still got plenty of good football ahead of him. The length of his extension would run through his 14th year.

Bowman is expecting a more competitive team this season under new coach Chip Kelly, even if the 49ers’ fast-break offense puts more pressure on their own defense.
