Bowman : Contract extension motivating
Linebacker NaVorro Bowman has agreed to a four-year contract extension with the San Francisco 49ers worth $44 million, including $20 million guaranteed, a source tells ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Fortunately, Bowman has signed a 4-year extension with the San Francisco 49ers. Bowman, 28, who missed 2014 with a severe knee injury, has been named a first-team All-Pro in each of his first four seasons as a starter. “You basically have to crawl before you can walk and understand that the guys that do make the big money in this league work hard and have to wait their time to get to that point”, Bowman said.
Entering this season, Bowman made it clear he feels stronger and ready to prove he’s still got plenty of good football ahead of him. The length of his extension would run through his 14th year.
“Over the last six years, NaVorro Bowman has become a cornerstone of our organization”, Baalke said.
“I’m just excited to have another year to go out and improve on the year that I had last year just to prove the doubters wrong and get back to the level that I was at and get the respect that I deserve”. “I think they handled that situation professionally”.
Bowman is expecting a more competitive team this season under new coach Chip Kelly, even if the 49ers’ fast-break offense puts more pressure on their own defense. The perseverance he displayed while overcoming adversity and returning to his All-Pro form provides a great example of what can be accomplished through hard work and self-belief.

“I want to thank Jed, the York family and Trent for giving me the opportunity to continue my career where my heart is”, Bowman said. The 49ers, he said, want to offer lucrative contracts to players such as Bowman they’ve drafted and developed. His best single-season effort came back in 2013 as Bowman recorded 145 total tackles, five sacks, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and two interceptions. And while Bowman knows that his high-level of play is crucial to the team’s success, he also looks forward to starting his role as a mentor. “I haven’t thought that far yet, but just glad to be locked in and finish my career as a 49er”.
