Box and Salesforce unite for integrated in-app file management

Content managed on Box can be connected directly to records, users and groups within Salesforce. A key element of the new service is that it will maintain any access permissions or security tied to the original file stored in Box.

Yesterday Salesforce and Box jointly announced an upcoming pilot of Salesforce Files Connect for Box (starting in February next year), and a Box SDK for Salesforce (available immediately).

What do you think that happens with my wife? “So you think that I want to talk with the media now”. This has not been a good season for Louis Van Gaal and Manchester United .

Salesforce (CRM +0.8%) and Box (BOX +3.5%) have launched a solution (called Salesforce Files Connect for Box) that allows common customers to search, browse, share, and collaborate on files stored on Box’s cloud platform without leaving Salesforce’s cloud CRM apps.

A police spokesperson said the incident occurred in the afternoon near the Old City’s Jaffa Gate, a popular tourist spot. Most have taken place around the Damascus Gate, the main entrance to the Old City’s Muslim quarter.

The companies are also launching an SDK for 3rd-party developers looking to add Box support to apps developed via Salesforce’s App Cloud platform (combines the well-used Heroku and Force.com platforms).

The Salesforce announcement follows other partnerships Box has made in 2015, with companies including IBM and Microsoft (Office 365 and Windows 10).

The SDK will also enable developers to embed Box’s content management functionality into Salesforce processes and customisations. “A deeper collaboration between the two platforms will increase productivity for our employees and enable them to be more successful at communicating with the people they care for every day”. Salesforce users will need the Box license to access the data but with the Dropbox equivalent being free it is unlikely that there will be an additional charge, though this has not yet been confirmed.

So, more of a consolidation of a co-existence for cloud-based content / CRM integrations that’s already clocked up many miles in the air without such explicit assistance, than a tie-up leading to adventures in especially new waters… but one that strengthens Box’s business platform play, and certainly makes it easier for those basing their content / CRM workflows in the cloud to construct a more frictionless end-to-end service.

Salesforce Files Connect for Box is expected to be generally available in the summer.
