According to Variety, the superhero movie is now the biggest film of 2016 worldwide, sitting at a cool $981.9 million, with expectations it will reach the $1 billion mark by the weekend.
As would be expected, Civil War has been a huge hit domestically, with current United States box office earnings at $310.5 million.
The domestic total has hit $310.5 million after 13 days while the worldwide cume has reached $671.4 million since April 27, led by China with $164.2 million and South Korea with $60.7 million. Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War was released last weekend, two months after the disastrous Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice-it more than makes up for that lackluster superhero flick and the other studio duds from the past six weeks.
It’s the #1 film of the year globally and the fourth Marvel Cinematic Universe film to surpass the $1 billion threshold, joining The Avengers ($1.518 billion), Avengers: Age of Ultron ($1.405 billion), and Iron Man 3 ($1.215 billion). Civil War will be Marvel’s biggest box office success this year. As for the rest of the summer, X-Men: Apocalypse and Suicide Squad now have a lot to live up to.

Of course, the most likely candidates to out-gross Civil War are probably Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. While Falcon (Anthony Mackie), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Agent 13 (Emily VanCamp) are Team Captain America. Let us know in the comments.
