Boxing Upset As Tyson Fury Defeats Wladimir Klitschko To Take World

The build-up to the fight had been colourful and controversial, ranging from Fury’s appearance at a United Kingdom news conference dressed as Batman to threats by the Briton that he would pull out of the contest altogether due to issues over gloves and the ring canvas.

A rematch is certainly in play – Wladimir’s team confirmed after the fight that he does have a rematch clause – but Klitschko’s retirement appears to be coming sooner than later.

Fury said on BBC 5 Live: ‘I always said what I’d do and I’ve delivered tonight.

“Japan, Turkey, Azerbaijan, America – wherever it has to be, it has to be”.

‘I knew I could come here and upset the apple cart. I want to be a great champion and I’d like to do it all again.

Fury is already focusing on the rematch to the extent he rubbished talk of a unification fight with the American WBC champion Deontay Wilder. “In the mighty name of Jesus I thank you”. Let’s laugh at his name, shall we?

Ukraine’s Wladimir Klitschko’s dominating run in boxing’s heavyweight division is over. Probably the pound-for-pound king, whatever that means.

The 39-year-old world champion Klitschko hasn’t lost a boxing bout in 11 years.

“Klitshcko (64-4, 53 KO) seemed utterly befuddled by the 6’9” Fury’s awkward head movement, while his own reflexes seemed to betray him. His reach bothered me. I’ve been doing it all my life. “You all got it wrong”. But it was with the power of Jesus that I won this fight. The scores were 115-112 2X, and 116-111.

“I was very well prepared”. But his father, John Fury, told doctors it was his destiny to live and become heavyweight champion of the world. “It’s not come easy”.

It is the first loss Klitschko – 12 years his opponent’s senior – has suffered since 2004, while Fury is now 25 unbeaten. I wasn’t given anything for free. “I should have landed more right hands but I couldn’t find the right distance”. “We worked so hard for this”.

“They get a few beers in them and they start thinking they are Tyson or Ali; throwing punches, swearing and jumping around with their big fat bellies”.
