The names of the boy and his father were not released. The vehicle is described as a late 1990s or early 2000s maroon-coloured SUV.

According to Alicia Martinez, the boy’s grandmother, the SUV had been following the boy’s father’s auto closely before it pulled alongside the vehicle.

Beloit Police confirmed to Eyewitness News a 5 year-old boy has been shot and killed.

Police are looking for a maroon SUV seen leaving the shooting scene Friday night.

On their Facebook page, the Beloit Police Department is asking for the public’s help.

This incident happened near several stores on a busy road so it’s likely someone saw the shooting.

Interim Police Chief David Zibolski said the boy’s father reported that the SUV had been following him but authorities have not determined for how long.

Police are still investigating and asking for anyone with information to come forward.
