To thank him for his efforts, Winslow Township police made William an honorary officer and presented him with his own badge and police vehicle stickers, then gave the boy a ride home with lights and sirens. William’s mom says this was all the little boy’s idea because he simply loves police officers.

5-year-old William Evertz Jr. wanted his heroes to eat healthy so he bought them Subway as part of a day of kindness. “We look forward to people who want to fill our spots when we retire”, said Winslow Police Department Lt. Christopher Dubler.

The Winslow Police Department has received an outpouring of support from the community since the recent shootings of cops in Texas and Louisiana, Philly.com reported. Even the Mayor, Barry Wright, commended the boy.

Residents have sent in letters with kind words and baked goods. As a five-year-old, William has a long way to go but in time he can hopefully enter a police force offering peace in an accepting and respectful world.
