Boykin, Doctson questionable for No. 11 TCU

Things have gotten twisted for No. 11 TCU – as in the right ankle of dual-threat quarterback Trevone Boykin and the left wrist of star receiver Josh Doctson. After TCU dominated the fourth quarter, the head coach opted to go for a two-point conversion to take the lead late in the game.

Doctson was one of the nation’s most productive receivers before the injury, setting school records with 78 catches for 1,315 yards and 14 touchdowns.

But the reason Kohlhausen had a chance to bring Oklahoma back despite the impotence of the TCU offense earlier in the half is because Oklahoma’s offense had hit the skids too.

TCU also has a fairly solid offensive line that’s only allowed 12 sacks on the season.

Quarterback Baker Mayfield did not start the second half of Oklahoma’s game with TCU after suffering an undisclosed injury. The Horned Frogs edged past lowly Kansas last week and will get a stiff test in the Sooners.

In 10 games, Boykin has completed 65.7 percent of his passes.

TCU has scored a touchdown in the first quarter of 28 consecutive games. Patterson said after the game the venue played a role in the call. After scoring a touchdown to make it a 30-29 ballgame, Gary Patterson and the No. 18 Horned Frogs made a decision to go for two rather than tie it with an extra point, but failed to convert. Boykin had been listed as questionable all week. The Sooners did not produce any style points to impress the selection committee – though you’d figure Mayfield’s absence will be noted – but they moved one step closer nonetheless to making a real argument for inclusion in the four-team tournament. The Sooners are matching up with TCU’s defense at an inopportune time. They are averaging over 55 points per game over the past five game weeks. Baylor finished with 700 yards of total offense, Oklahoma State ended up with 441 with 433 of them through the air.

Orlando Brown helped put the nail in the coffin of Oklahoma’s first drive with a 15-yard penalty for shoving a defensive lineman. “As the game went on, (the players) became more emotional and had to overcome Trevone and Doctson not being in a whole lot”.

Along with the excitement of two one-loss teams squaring off, this matchup also features a little bit of drama that carried over from last year’s game.
