In London, health officials could not explain why the flu season has hit so late. DE saw 2,390 confirmed cases and 28 flu-related deaths for the 2014-2015 flu season. For the week ending March 12, there were 411 confirmed cases, more than double the previous week’s total. The week before that number was 197.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), encourage people to take time to get a flu vaccination.

A flu outbreak in the Danville area has cause Presence United Samaritans Medical Center to issue temporary visitor restrictions for Friday, March 18th.

Check dhss.delaware.gov/dhss/dph/fluclinics.html for more information on flu clinics. Visitors are asked to clean their hands when entering and leaving the hospital either by washing with soap or rubbing their hands together with hand sanitizer from one of the stations. Additionally, the vaccine is available through medical providers, pharmacies, and some grocery stores.

If you’re sick, stay home. Clinicians are reminded to use antiviral medication to treat suspected influenza in high-risk patients, those with progressive disease, and all hospitalized patients as soon as possible as these medications are most effective when administered early.
