The FBI is assessing whether or not they will launch an investigation into the child abuse allegations against Brad Pitt.

People.com reported that Pitt is accused of verbal and physical abuse while the family was on their private plane last Wednesday.

Now FBI agents have confirmed to the BBC they are evaluating whether to investigate any allegations against Pitt.

Both PEOPLE and TMZ, citing unnamed sources, said Pitt may have been intoxicated at the time.

Any airborne incident would fall under the jurisdiction of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), not the police department.

LAPD has denied they are also investigating the claims.

A source with knowledge of the situation said that Pitt has been “cooperating fully” with the DCFS investigation, and was already interviewed.

Several media outlets on Tuesday reported that Pitt had been verbally and physically abusive to at least one of his six children during an angry outburst that contributed to Jolie seeking a divorce.

According to TMZ, Pitt disputes the accusation and the LAPD is looking into the case because that is routine whenever anyone reports child abuse.

“LAPD is not handling any report or allegations into child abuse for Mr. Brad Pitt”, the representatives tells Us Weekly.

Jolie, 41, filed for divorce from Pitt, 52, Monday and requested sole physical custody of the couple’s children.

The Hollywood power couple has been married a little more than two years. She asked for Pitt to have joint legal custody and visitation rights.

Jolie’s lawyer, Robert Offer, said the decision to divorce had been made “for the health of the family”.
