Brad Pitt: FBI ‘evaluating’ whether to investigate child abuse claims

Shortly after the plane took off, Brad and his wife, actor Angelina Jolie, started arguing, TMZ reported.

Update, 10:50 A.M: The Los Angeles Police Department said it is not investigating Brad Pitt for child abuse.

According to the celebrity website TMZ , Los Angeles police began probing Brad based on an anonymous tip received by the Department of Children and Family Services, as is systematic following any report of child abuse.

An LAPD spokesperson told us, “There was an incident that occurred on [a] plane and the Federal Bureau of Investigation is now handling it”. The LAPD denied this, saying that they were not investigating any allegations against Pitt.

Now FBI agents have confirmed to the BBC they are evaluating whether to investigate any allegations against Pitt.

Pitt is accused of getting verbally abusive with one of the couple’s kids, as well as getting “physical“, the source said.

A source tells the New York Post, that the 52-year-old actor is very upset about allegations that he hit the children and “is denying claims of inappropriate behavior”.

A source close to Pitt told USA Today that the Fight Club star meant to cooperate fully with any investigation and that he believed the child abuse allegations were baseless. While the FBI might not usually look into such a case, the source said that because the alleged incident happened while in the air, it moves to the FBI to gather evidence to determine whether or not a federal investigation is necessary.

It was the second marriage for Pitt, 52, who previously Wednesday actress Jennifer Aniston, and the third for Jolie Pitt, 41, who was previously married to Billy Bob Thornton and Jonny Lee Miller. Jolie claimed “irreconcilable differences“, and has filed for full physical custody and joint legal custody of their six children. The source added, “It’s unfortunate that people involved are continuing to present him in the worst possible light”.

News of Pitt and Jolie’s split was announced Tuesday.

Jolie’s lawyer Robert Offer said the actress had filed for the dissolution of the marriage “for the health of the family”.
