All three of the outlets reported the theory that conservative fans of the film were “upset” because of Cooper’s role as Navy Seal Chris Kyle in the 2014 movie called “American Sniper”.

‘Republicans were up in arms because I was there listening to the president speak, ‘ Cooper said.
The 41-year-old actor opened up about Republicans being outraged over him attending the 2016 Democratic National Convention the week before in Philadelphia, Pa.
Make sure to catch The Late Late Show with James Corden weeknights at 12:37 a.m. EST on CBS!
BRADLEY Cooper doesn’t understand what all the fuss is about. But he was less than thrilled with the media firestorm surrounding his appearance, remarking, “I was not expecting that”. “Ewww Ick”, another tweet read. His Russian model girlfriend, Irina Shayk, was also in attended. I took my mom, and we went to hear the President speak. As the American Sniper star explained on The Late Late Show Tuesday night, he doesn’t quite get it either.
Cooper and Phillips also recalled a dinner they had with former President Bill Clinton while filming Hangover 2 in Thailand. At first I did think it was genuine and my heart stopped, and I was like “I can’t accept this” and then I looked and said “Oh”. He did laugh at fellow guest Todd Phillips’ fire analogy-“which is like the Mob being mad at De Niro for being in The Intern“-though, so that counts for something”.

The actor didn’t tell host James Corden who he’d be voting for in November, but Cooper did notably donate funds to Hillary Clinton’s campaign in 2008.
