Brady ready after ‘silly accident’ with scissors cuts thumb

Garoppolo has started both of the team’s preseason games – August 11 against the New Orleans Saints and August 18 against the Chicago Bears – although he was scheduled to come off the bench against Chicago but plans changed abruptly when Brady sliced his right thumb shortly before kickoff.

Opportunities are especially hard to come by for Brady as his four-game suspension to start the regular season looms, but he didn’t seem necessarily concerned with getting in enough game reps to be ready for when he returns against the Cleveland Browns in Week 5.

He hasn’t missed a regular-season start since 2008, when he suffered a torn ACL in his left knee during the season opener.

“I was ready to go, had everything on, and I was just trying to get something out of my shoe”, Brady said. Asked if he’s been told he will play, Brady said, “I’m always prepared to go”. It was a decision the former MVP agreed with.

“It took a few days (to heal),” Brady said. “I could have played in the first two preseason games, but you just kind of think, “Is it worth it to get a total of three series when you’re putting yourself at risk?” So that’s what I ended up doing.

“Absolutely. I like to be out there every time I get a chance to play”, Brady said. “When you see your teammates out there in their uniforms and ready to go, you want to be out there with them”.

Jimmy Garoppolo will start while Brady’s out, with Brady returning to the starting role once his suspension ends before New England’s game at Cleveland on October 9.

“This will be a good test”, Garoppolo said. “I think thats really encouraged by (offensive co-ordinator Josh McDaniels) to speak up and say what you think.

He said how he will handle staying in football shape during that time is still to be determined. Brady said he was disappointed, and it’s been tough not getting an opportunity to play so far over the last two weeks. “In the meantime, I’m just trying to prepare this week like I would have last year and the year before, and try to just prepare the best I can so I can be the best quarterback that I can for this team”.

On his Twitter account Tuesday, Bryant promised Cowboys fans that he is OK.

“We’ll find out together, I guess”, Garoppolo said.

“It was a nondescript hit”, Garrett said.
