Rebekah Schaff, AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer, is excited for the Summer Lunch Program to begin.
The Seamless Summer Option is an option for districts through federal National School Lunch or the School Breakfast programs for schools to serve free meals to children from low-income areas, according to the federal agency.
Each site will be open from 7:30 to 7:55 a.m. for breakfast and 11 a.m.to 12:30 p.m. for lunch.
In order to get a free meal, your child must be between the ages of 1 to 18 and be at one of the serving locations.
The thought was that students in the academy would be able to stay at the school and have a meal before returning home for the day.
May 31-Aug. 5. Lunch at 11:30 a.m. Many don’t know where to turn for a good meal in the summer.

“We hope it continues and grows”, said Barbara Veale, a volunteer of the program. “Westerly is fortunate to have a great team of providers that grows year to year”. The Food Bank provides food to places like the Boys and Girls Clubs, summer school programs, churches and recreation programs for children at risk of hunger. Food partners who benefit from the food drive told Arvest Bank of a need for food in the summer months. The vans will go to underserved neighborhoods and offer free meals to kids who would otherwise not have access. “Each site will offer a lunch consisting of a hot or cold sandwich, fruit or vegetable, juice and milk”.
