Brandon Marshall, Darian Stewart fined for hits on Cam Newton

On Wednesday, Denver linebacker Brandon Marshall reportedly was fined $24,309 and safety Darian Stewart $18,231 by the league for helmet-to-helmet hits on Newton. “I gain nothing by talking about the past”.

In addition, the non-calls showed how trivial the well-being of the football players are considered during the game by the referees. My focus is trying to win football games through all of the hits and everything else. “My job as a quarterback is to collect wins”.

Stewart was fined $18,231, sources told ESPN, for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Newton that came with just under 40 seconds remaining in the Broncos’ 21-20 victory over the Panthers in last Thursday night’s National Football League season opener. That hit came in the third quarter of the game and Marshall was not flagged for that play.

Newton didn’t have an opinion either way.

“That’s it, winning”, the Panthers quarterback said when asked about his long-term health.

He said he’s ready to play in Carolina’s home opener Sunday against the 49ers, who are coming off a 28-0 shutout win over the Los Angeles Rams.

Now that the Ravens tight end has proven that two serious hip operations and a two-year layoff won’t keep him down, his next objective is to return to the form he displayed during Baltimore’s Super Bowl run in 2012.

He said he doesn’t feel the need to lobby for his health, even as his teammates and coaches have done that for him. When he is a passer, he is a passer. “Everybody’s got a job to do”. “We play hard, we’re going to continue to play hard”.

“Miscommunication”, Davis, a first-round pick in 2010, said Wednesday.

“I worry about winning”.

“I don’t think it matters”.

“I mean … we asked for certain things to help us out”, Rivera said about the Panthers’ schedule this season, which also sees the team playing back-to-back West Coast road games against Oakland and Seattle.

“The po-boys are really good, ” Rivera said. “I’ve seen hits in the past where guys stumbled, and I’ve seen hits where it affects their play afterward”, Newton continued. “So I just can’t point the finger and say, ‘I haven’t gotten those calls.’ Because I have”.

“It’s a contact sport”, Newton said multiple times on Wednesday. Yes, they should follow the rules, but why would they bother when they know they can get away with hitting the opposing quarterback in the skull?

“If the league is going to be married to concussion protocol, first of all, start it with the officials because they mandate behavior on the field”, Cecil Newton said in an interview with ESPN. “There is no doubt that everything will work out in itself”.
