“The message is I’m against social injustice”, Marshall said.

CenturyLink sent out a statement on Monday stating that the company respects Marshall’s decision not to stand during the national anthem but that “whatever issues we face, we also occasionally must stand together to show our allegiance to our common bond as a nation”.

According to a post on the Facebook page belonging to Air Academy Federal Union, Marshall will no longer serve as an endorser.

The Air Academy Federal Credit Union dropped him as a spokesman Friday. “We wish Brandon well on his future endeavours”, Strebe wrote.

Marshall said he respects the military, which fought for his freedoms, including the rights of free speech and peaceful protest.

The Seattle Seahawks have said they have decided as a team to stand and interlock their arms during the anthem on Sunday.

Kaepernick said Wednesday on his Instagram account that he will donate all the money he receives from his jersey sales to charity to thank fans for their support.

The opening games of the new National Football League season are expected to be marked by peaceful demonstrations during the USA national anthem on Sunday by players trying to draw attention to racial disparities in the country’s justice system.

A smattering of players around the league have said they will join in protest during the national anthem this weekend. The whole thing’s worth a read right here. At times people want us to just shut up and entertain them, shut up and play football, but we have voices as well.

A college teammate of Colin Kaepernick, Marshall has now joined the ranks of athletes speaking out against injustice and discrimination.

“I support our players when they want to see change in society, and we don’t live in a flawless society”, Goodell added.

Marshall is the first player to have reportedly lost endorsements over the protest. “I believe in our players, you guys can talk to me about that”. People are going to bash me on social media but at the end of the day I’m going to go home and sleep peacefully knowing what I did was right.
