Brandon Marshall Was Mad That Cullen Jenkins Took Trash Talk Too Far

The Giants’ quarterback would not say what, if anything, was wrong with him physically, and there was no visible sign of any injuries after the game. They were up 20-10 at the half and had a chance to pull away with an easy win in a must-win situation.

But the Giants dropped yet another stinging loss, a 23-20 overtime defeat at the hands of the Jets.

The Giants grabbed a 7-3 lead at the top of the second quarter on Dwayne Harris’ 80-yard punt return for a touchdown. Yes, the Giants’ inability to score touchdowns while in the red zone contributed to the loss, but the Jets were not exactly the model of efficiency in that regard either.

Dec 6, 2015; East Rutherford, NJ, USA; New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin reacts during the fourth quarter against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium.

On his scramble for the first down in the fourth quarter: “Yeah it was a pass play, they played two man and everybody kind of turned their backs to me so that was a critical juncture in the game where I just saw that I could definitely pick up the first down that way, so that’s what I did. They drove, kicked a field goal, and then we didn’t do anything with the ball again”. The Giants were set up at the Jets’ ten, but they were held to a field goal.

Still, when it mattered most, they failed to get pressure on Fitzpatrick and force him into mistakes. There are only 4 games left and they need to start utilizing their tight ends and Powell more often. That doesn’t put him in Takeo Spikes territory; poor guy played 219 games without reaching the playoffs. A three-and-out then forced the Giants to punt, and the Jets tied the game with a 10-play, 71-yard drive capped with a 9-yard touchdown to Brandon Marshall that sent the game into overtime.

New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham (13) celebrates after scoring a touchdown during the first half of an NFL football game against the New York Jets Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015, in East Rutherford, N.J. He did all that for Josh Brown to miss and doom the Giants to 5-7. But do the Giants really take advantage of opportunities?

For his second straight game, Eli Manning was subpar, tossing just one touchdown to go along with one extremely costly interception. This is who they are after falling to a 5-7 record, sputtering and underachieving and spinning toward oblivion. They will remain tied for the NFC East lead if the Eagles and Redskins lose this weekend.

It is not often that a coach as talented as David Shaw remains away from the pros for a lengthy amount of time. He won two Super Bowls.

The Chiefs won 34-20 with 20 unanswered points iun the fourth quarter as Carr was intercepted three times.

Before we get too far ahead of ourselves, congratulations to Brandon Marshall for becoming the first player ever to post a 1,000 yard receiving season with four separate teams, and being the first 1,000 yard New York Jets’ receiver since Jerricho Cotchery in 2007.

Give Tom Coughlin and his Giants this much.

Odell Beckham Jr. put up some big numbers (6-149-TD) with Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis sidelined with a concussion, but were there any other receivers on the roster? Shoot, even Devin Smith got into the action last week, and could see the endzone Sunday against the Giants (he can burn you…).

Giant’s fans are stunned. The Giants defense was obviously exhausted but they were not the only ones to blame for this loss. We had Buffalo in a big game. It was nothing close to attractive but at least it was intriguing.

With four weeks left in the season, there is still plenty of time for things to change. Yes, the decision to go for the first down on fourth and two early in the fourth quarter was a poor choice by Coughlin, if only because he should not have trusted his defense with a lead of any size.
