Braun hits 2 homers, Brewers beat Rockies for 4th win in row

Colorado starter Tyler Anderson (4-5) struck out 10 while allowing three hits and a pair of walks over five innings.

The Rockies failed to avoid the sweep this afternoon in Milwaukee as Ryan Braun homered twice and the Rockies’ bats failed to find much of the ball. All the momentum gained from winning two of three from the Cubs last weekend has evaporated.

The bullpen allowed four runs in two innings and has a 4.86 ERA this year. “He’s still available to do some of the other things, but I’m not going to use him to hit”, Weiss said. “We’ve got some young guys out that are very talented that are learning on the job. And we have some veterans who are searching for some confidence right now”. The Rockies were sloppy yesterday but they get one back here as Gray has been pretty solid and gives them the edge over the Brewers on this day. The one run he allowed was a solo home run by Nolan Arenado in the top of the first inning.

While Anderson, a rookie, was delivering another strong start, the Rockies’ normally boisterous bats were noticeably quiet.

David Dahl had two hits and scored both runs for the Rockies. They travel to Washington D.C. for a three-game series starting Friday before returning home to Denver to finish the month of August against the Dodgers. He walked multiple batters in the first, second and fifth innings. He came in as a pinch hitter in the ninth.

“We’re struggling out there right now”, Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. “But the fact is, we’re losing”. “I was just nibbling a little bit”. “As soon as I saw the catcher go to the ball, I went home”.

Raburn struck out to end the threat, and the game started to slip away.

Milwaukee tacked on another run on Arcia’s bunt single in the sixth off reliever Chris Rushin. Boone Logan (2-3) then gave up a double to Villar to make it 4-3, struck out Scooter Gennett and intentionally walked Braun. Qualls replaced Rusin with one out in the seventh and a runner on third. Braun foiled any hopes by drilling a back-up slider over the fence in center. Maldonado’s fielder’s choice ended the inning, and the Brewers had their final 7-1 margin.

“We faced a lot of guys we haven’t faced before”, right fielder Carlos Gonzalez said.

“It’s nice to swing the bat well, but when you don’t win, that’s the ultimate goal right?”

The Rockies look to avenge a shaky loss yesterday as they send Jon Gray to the mound here to face off against Chase Anderson as the visitors need to get back in the win column to ensure they keep their faint playoff hopes intact in the National League. “If there’s any kind of positive to take out of this it’s that I felt good, so I’ll take that, I guess”.
