Well, more than 11,000 people as of Wednesday morning have expressed their anger.

Flickering Myth’s review of Suicide Squad will be live this Thursday evening. But the vitriol has spun off in an odd new direction thanks to a new Change.Org petition that calls for Rotten Tomatoes, a site that collates reviews from other publications and boils them down to simple numerical scores, to be shut down.

Meanwhile, David Ayer had a less “burn it to the ground” response to criticism, saying on Twitter, “I love the movie and believe in it”. It is an aggregating website, which means it just collects reviews from around the web, weighs the ratings out, and then gives the movie an average score that captures what critics think.

The problems with this petition go far beyond the poor grammar.

User Abdullah Coldwater, who launched the petition on Tuesday, acknowledged in a later post that he knows his efforts won’t get Rotten Tomatoes shut down.

The petition now has 1,348 signatures out of a desired 1,500.

If you’ve been following the movie news cycle for the last few hours then you’re probably aware that the first wave of reviews for Suicide Squad have hit the web, and majority are pretty negative. Unfortunately, this sort of thinking is becoming predictable; We’ve been in situations similar to this on two occasions earlier this year with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Ghostbusters, and now it seems we’re in for more cries of conspiracy with Suicide Squad in the coming weeks. Both films were directed by Zack Snyder, who is also slated to direct the superhero team-up “Justice League”.

“Batman v. Superman” made US$170.1 million in its first weekend in North America, but negative buzz led to a 68 per cent drop in ticket sales during its second weekend at the box office. Entertainment up until February, when it was sold to Fandango.
