Braves blow scoring chance in 4th, lose at home again

The Atlanta Braves had a rough start to the night in game 2 against the Mets; having to play catch-up most the night.

Seth Lugo (4-2) continued his unexpected magic, limiting the Braves to two runs over seven innings on six hits and one walk. From the plate, he drew a walk, scored a run and hit a sacrifice fly. Cabrera had three hits and scored three runs Sunday.

Before the Mets took the field to play their final game at Turner Field, manager Terry Collins was asked if he would miss the stadium that had housed the Atlanta Braves for the last 20 years.

Rockies 3, Padres 2, 10 inn.: Mark Reynolds homered leading off the 10th inning for the Rockies.

The Mets snapped a six-game winning streak, their longest since late April when they won eight straight. The 26-year-old righthander threw seven innings allowing two runs on seven hits.

Bartolo Colon tried not to put too much blame on himself for two mistake pitches that resulted in solo homers for Matt Kemp and Nick Markakis. They moved one-half game ahead of the Cardinals for the second NL wild-card spot. “I’ve never done it before, but I was ready”, said Ty Kelly, who moved from the outfield to the infield for a batter.

Yoenis Cespedes delivered a run-scoring ground out in the first inning, and then hit a grand slam in the third, putting NY comfortably ahead, 5-0.

The same could probably be said for the entire Mets organization, which suffered plenty of heartache here, including a stinging walk-off loss in Game 6 of the 1999 National League Championship Series.

Lugo cruised early in the game, needing only 35 pitches to get through the first three innings, but he faced adversity in the bottom of the fourth.

The Atlanta Braves have placed catcher A.J. Pierzynski on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring.

Freeman has reached safely in a career-high 33 straight games.

Kendrys Morales and Eric Hosmer went deep to give the Kansas City Royals a 2-0 win over the Chicago White Sox and Ryan Braun’s 429-foot homer edged the Milwaukee Brewers to a 2-1 win over the St Louis Cardinals. RHP Jacob deGrom (sore forearm) played catch in the outfield before batting practice but hasn’t thrown off a mound since his last start on September 1.

Atlanta looks to make it a series win tomorrow night as Williams Perez (2-2, 5.47) takes the mound for Atlanta. James Loney hit a solo shot in the fourth, and then the Mets really opened things up in the fifth with everyone from Alejandro de Aza to starter Seth Lugo getting in on the action.
