Braves right-hander Gant leaves game with apparent injury

Monday’s contest between the Indians and Braves at Turner Field, won by the red-hot Indians, 8-3, was bookended by two odd circumstances that you probably wouldn’t expect to see happen in the same game.

During the third inning, Gant experienced discomfort and attempted to throw a practice pitch but left the game shortly after accompanied by a trainer, David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

“He had some success and then got in a little bit of a rut”, Braves interim manager Brian Snitker said. Jenkins managed to navigate the third inning with just six pitches (five strikes), but this will still affect the Braves’ bullpen somewhat, considering Gant gave them just two innings tonight against the surging Tribe.

Lonnie Chisenhall hit a three-run homer, Trevor Bauer gave up two runs in six innings and the Cleveland Indians beat the Atlanta Braves 8-3 on Monday night for their 10th straight win. Jenkins was pressed into action with the Braves trailing 1-0, no outs and a runner on first base.

The Braves said Gant’s status will be evaluated Tuesday, but Snitker was bracing for an extended absence. Jace Peterson and Freddie Freeman both had two hits.

In team-related news, the Braves designated Alexi Ogando for assignment and brought Mauricio Cabrera to the big leagues. Cleveland has a very well balanced attack and will only get better once Michael Brantley returns but in the mean time they are riding the hot stick of Francisco Lindor who has been incredible over the last couple of weeks and as such so as his team.

Jason Kipnis added a homer in the ninth.

Layne was staggered by the foul tip hit by Atlanta’s Nick Markakis in the bottom of the eighth inning. He stepped back and grabbed Cleveland catcher Chris Gimenez’s arm to keep from falling.

Snitker said Cabrera’s fastball was regularly timed at 99 to 101 miles per hour at MS, where he was 3-3 with a 3.21 ERA and four saves in 25 games.

Kluber, who is 5-2 in his last seven starts, is 10-2 with a 2.30 ERA against the National League in interleague play. Second base umpire Hunter Wendelstedt finished the game behind the plate.

Indians: RHP Corey Kluber (7-7, 3.59 ERA) will be making his first start in seven days when he faces the Braves on Tuesday night. Wisler will be coming into this game having thrown two consecutive quality starts.

Wisler (3-7, 4.22 ERA) is 1-5 with a 4.45 ERA at Turner Field, where the 23-year-old right-hander has issued 18 of his 26 walks.
