President Thomas Bach addresses a press conference of 129th International Olympic Committee session in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on August 4, 2016. “We want to question Thomas Bach as a witness because he features in emails and we want to clear up certain uncertainties”, Oliveira said on Thursday.

Ireland’s top Olympic official Pat Hickey has been charged by a judge in Brazil, in relation to illegal ticket sales involving senior irish Olympic officials. “This includes the publication of obviously private messages not related to the allegations against Mr Hickey by the police”.

Police say that Hickey received 296 tickets after his written request to the International Olympic Committee president.

Should they violate the terms of house arrest, Hickey and Mallon could return to jail, the court warned.

Bach, who traveled to Zagreb, Croatia, this week, said he missed the ceremony to attend the funeral in Germany for former West Germany president Walter Scheel.

They are furthermore banned him from attending any Paralympic events.

On Friday, Rio’s Police Commissioner Aloysio Falcao clarified at a press conference that Bach would be called as a witness if he came to Brazil but added “this does not make him a suspect in the case”.

“Is it Bach’s job to deal with these tickets?”

The court ordered Hickey and Mallon, who have had their passports confiscated and been told to remain in Brazil, to appear at a Rio court on the 20th of every month and to obey a 10 p.m. house arrest curfew. The email was discovered after Rio police confiscated the computer of a third person, Martin Burk, also of the Irish Olympic Committee, at their delegation’s hotel.

Patrick Hickey allegedly sent a list to IOC President Thomas Bach of events he wanted extra tickets for at Rio 2016
