That gold medal is still lacking on the Brazil honours list despite five runners-up places at the Olympics heading into this year’s tournament, slated to kick off on August 4. Brazil will face China, Sweden and South Africa in Group E, while Germany will play Canada, Zimbabwe and Australia in Group G. If they were to finish second in the group, they’d likely play Germany, ranked second in the world, in the quarterfinals.
Sixteen men’s teams and 12 women’s teams participated in the draw. New Zealand routed Papua New Guinea, victor of the 2015 Pacific Games, in a play-off in January 2016 to earn Oceania’s berth at Rio 2016. Japan’s absence means the Americans will be even more heavily favored to win gold August 19 at the Maracana, but the US has plenty to sort out before it gets to Brazil.

Nigeria will be playing at the Amazonia Arena in Manaus in Group B, which holds this August.
