The Brazilians, who entered the tourney as the favorites to win the gold medal, prevailed in the quarterfinal match 21-14, 12-21, 15-9 amid high winds on Rio’s Copacabana beach. Dalhausser would rebound in the second set, scoring the first five points of the set and going on to even the match at one set apiece with a 21-14 victory.
The opening two sets were completely different as Alison and Bruno broke from a 5-5 tie in the first set with a three-point run that propelled the Brazilians to a 10-5 spurt to take control command as the host pair scored three-straight points to end the set.

With a block to force match point and then a spike off Dalhausser for the victor, the man known as the “Mammouth” moved within one win of a second-straight Olympic medal. Next up for Alison and Bruno Schmidt will be either Nummerdor/Varenhorst or Brouwer/Meeuwsen of the Netherlands.
