A body found on June 8 was confirmed to be that of Rye Hunt. Hunt’s family said they were “heartbroken”. Rye was the youngest member of our family and was known for being loyal, loving, generous, cheeky, and as a brother, totally infuriating.

“Thinking about life without him is unfathomable”.

Brazilian media had previously sent photos of the body to the family, prior to Saturday’s confirmation.

His whereabouts were last known on May 21.

“I feel so blessed to have shared the last five years with my attractive “Big Bear”, she said. He will be very missed by us all.”RIP”.

The 25-year-old Tasmanian vanished in Rio on May 21 after a night out in the city’s party district, where he and travel buddy Mitchell Sheppard allegedly took what they believed to be MDMA, the main ingredient in ecstasy.

“We extend our deepest sympathies to the family”, she said.

A statement from the family this morning said officials from the Australian Embassy would be working with them to return his body to Australia.

“The love Rye and I shared will remain within both of us, forever”.

‘The Australian consular service has been working closely with the family, we have been working closely with the Brazilian authorities’.

“It goes without saying that this crosses many professional and personal boundaries”.

The family later revealed he may have taken a powerful and potentially risky hallucinogen, the synthetic psychedelic drug NBOMe, thinking it was a party drug.

Bonnie Cuthbert has been handing out flyings on Copacabana beach hoping to jog people’s memory about sightings of Mr Hunt.

Foreign Affairs Minister Julie Bishop said on Twitter the family was told immediately after the Brazilian authorities confirmed the test results overnight, and she answered a question from the media at midday.
