Brazilian police have recommended 10 people be charged in a ticket-touting ring uncovered at the Rio Games, including the man who until recently was Europe’s top Olympic official.

Mr Hickey, who temporarily stood down as President of the Olympic Council of Ireland following his arrest on August 17, and THG director Mr Mallon have been ordered to appear at the headquarters of the Juvenile Court on the 20th of each month and “justify their activities”.
The charges were referred to a special Olympic court on Monday afternoon.
Ireland’s Olympic Council President Patrick Hickey, right, leaves a police station in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016.
Also charged with Mr Hickey and Mr Mallon are co-defendants Marcus Paul Evans, Michael Glynn, Ken Murray, Eamonn Collins, Maarten Van Os, David Patrick Gilmore, Martin Studd, and Barbara Zancope Carnieri.
“We want to question Thomas Bach as a witness because he features in emails and we want to clear up certain uncertainties”, Oliveira said yesterday.
Police referred to text messages between Mr Bach and Mr Hickey, in which Mr Hickey requested additional tickets for high-demand events during the games.
New names, including at least one Irish person, will be divulged to press on Thursday, including new crimes that were not contemplated in this original phase of the investigation, based on “material that was apprehended – notebooks, laptops, and cell phones”.
The OCI head was arrested on August 17 during the games in his Rio hotel room.
The pair have been released on bail and deny any wrongdoing but they’ve had their passports confiscated by police.
It is expected that the judge will decide in the coming days whether or not the cases should be accepted or rejected.
“I will now stay in Rio and my lawyers will proceed to have the charges laid against me set aside as there is no substantive proof of any wrong doing on my part”, Hickey said in a statement after his release from prison. After spending a night in hospital, he was remanded to the notorious Bangu 10 jail.
