On Day 11 of the Rio Olympics, Simone Biles is seeking a fourth Olympic gold, one of 28 to be handed out.

When she finally rose, she and Sweden coach Pia Sundhage shared a warm embrace.

Having secured a total of 24 medals, Australia sit 11 short of the total medals bagged in London four years ago. Biles and Raisman went 1-2 in the all-around competition last week. Gold will also be awarded in the men’s 3,000 meter steeplechase. Epke Zonderland of the Netherlands will try to defend his Olympic title on high bar.

“I’m always confident going into the 200 meters”, said Bolt, who surged past Justin Gatlin to win the 100 on Sunday. “So I’m very aware that we have to pay extra attention to her”. Then again, the fastest man on the planet has never lacked for confidence.

Jamaica’s Omar McLeod earned the country its first gold in the men’s sprint hurdles, Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon devastated the field in the 1,500m and American Christian Taylor successfully defended his triple-jump gold. The competition begins at 9:50 a.m. The final is scheduled for 10:45 p.m.

Earlier Tuesday, top-seeded Brazilian women Talita and Larissa lost to Germany and will play in the bronze medal match at 10 p.m. Allyson Felix, the reigning Olympic champion, is not competing because she didn’t qualify at the U.S. Olympic trials. The Americans have three players, including newlywed Stacy Lewis. The Brazilians will face the Dutch team of Alexander Brouwer and Robert Meeuwsen. Brazil goalkeeper Barbara stopped the shot by Kosovare Asllani. They play at 1 p.m.

Brazil will still play for the bronze medal against Canada on Friday in Sao Paulo with a chance to salvage the tournament in a smaller way than Marta and her teammates had hoped.

Brazil was eliminated by Japan in the quarterfinals of the London Olympics four years ago.

Santa Rosa native Kim Conley saw her second Olympics end Tuesday morning in Rio de Janeiro when she failed to advance past the preliminary round in the women’s 5,000-meter run. We had such a young team coming in with 37 rookies, so being able to get to know them and help them, being elected a captain for the first time ever and carrying the flag, I literally don’t think anything could have gone any better through these Olympics and it’s a true dream come true.

The victor will face Germany’s Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst at 11:59 p.m.

Not for the first time at a games, the Australian sailing team have produced a last-ditch rescue mission to prop-up the Australian medal tally, which is unlikely to surpass London’s total of 35 medals. The gold medal team competition against Japan starts at 7:30 p.m. On the women’s side, Mariana Pajon of Colombia is the defending champ. Italian Elia Viviani won the men’s event Monday despite being taken out in a crash that claimed two other riders.

A day after Brazil won its first swimming medal of the games – a bronze in the women’s open water event – the men take to the sewage-filled waters off Copacabana beach for their 10K race. At the first Summer Games in 1896, before custom-built pools were the norm, swimming was held in the Bay of Zea.
