The actor transitioned into local politics in 2013, when he won a position on the Albuquerque school board, and now he has set his sights on the Bernalillo County Commission seat.

Quezada’s bid for the position of county commissioner is in part a response to recent housing developments in the area, which he voted against as a member of the Albuquerque. Bernalillo County is now in the midst of controversy regarding development and water scarcity.

Quezada is expected to formally announce his candidacy on Tuesday.

Quezada is especially drawn to the race because of the proposed 22-square-mile development called Santolina, which he voted against as a member of the Albuquerque Public Schools because it would lead to more overcrowding at the county’s schools, among other problems.

The actor-turned-politician also has been active in promoting anti-crime initiatives in the city of Albuquerque, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Adrian Pedroza, 37, who also is seeking the commission seat, said he didn’t know where Quezada stood on the issues. “We need leaders who are going to commit to responsible growth and not just recruit new Wal-Marts and chain restaurants”. “I did sit down with Quezada to talk about the race, so I was giving a head’s up”, Pedroza said.
