Breaking News Robert Griffin III released by the Redskins
Washington’s football team has released former starting quarterback Robert Griffin III, the former franchise star who was relegated to the bench this season, according to ESPN.

The Robert Griffin III era in Washington is officially over.
The Redskins traded an enormous haul of draft picks to move up and select Griffin with the second pick of the 2012 NFL Draft (after Andrew Luck) and looked to have a bonafide superstar on their hands as a rookie.
-I don’t think Kelly is particularly interested in bringing this potentially large distraction into his first minicamps and training camp with the 49ers, but we’ll see how this progresses. He was relegated to third string QB this past season and was inactive on game days.
Griffin seemed to come back too soon from his severe knee problems during the 2013 campaign, leading to a 3-13 record for Washington and the departure of head coach Mike Shanahan.
In 2014, Griffin’s ankle injury cost him six games and, once more, the reps he needed to develop. Griffin had a great rookie season going before injury struck and he was never the same player again. Griffin crumbled to the turf on a botched snap and an MRI later showed that he suffered tears to the ACL and LCL in his right knee.
Still, Griffin was the future of the franchise and vowed to return for the season opener – “All-In for Week One” was the slogan. Griffin is the most accurate passer available on a market that also is set to include Ryan Fitzpatrick, Brock Osweiler and Chase Daniel. He would end up alternating with Colt McCoy at the quarterback position to end the season. Considering Kirk Cousins’ recent success, it made sense both personnel and finance-wise to let Griffin go. In the long run, hopefully it’ll make him a better quarterback. On the day after the 2015 season ended, Griffin cleaned out his locker, taking with him his action figures and some sayings taped to his locker.

The more important aspect, by far: RG3 might very much want to explore his options with the 49ers, while we know Kaepernick doesn’t want to be in Santa Clara any more. “But I think the No. 1 choice for him would be to go to San Francisco if Kaepernick’s gone”.
