In the classroom, posters and flip charts are available as a guide for what to do in an active shooter situation. The revelation comes just hours after the heartbreaking news that he allegedly killed 13 people on the small campus of roughly 3,000 students, and wounded more than 20.
Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin told television stations in Eugene, Ore., early Friday that investigators were at Umpqua Community College and the shooter’s nearby apartment throughout the night. Gray said the other two are expected to survive, but one remains in critical condition.
According to DM, he wanted to join the US Army but was dismissed in 2008 after just 5 weeks of training at For Jackson for failing to meet the minimum administrative standards to serve.
Harper-Mercer apparently demanded to know his victims’ religious beliefs before opening fire at the campus.
Officers also said they recovered three handguns and what they described as a “long gun” – which generally refers to a shotgun or a rifle. We started to run to the center of campus.
Thursday’s was the deadliest this year, surpassing the nine killed in a gun battle between motorcycle gangs in Waco, Texas, in May, and the nine who died in the rampage of a gunman at a black church in Charleston, South Carolina in June. “The male shooter is released”, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office writes in a statement. Investigators say the gunman appeared to be involved in a loosely-affiliated online community known as the “beta boys” that glorifies mass shootings, similar to the Oregon attack, the official said. “I applaud the guy’s heroism”.
“I can’t answer any questions right now”.
“I never thought that it could possibly be that my extended family would ever be affected by” this kind of violence.
“Shocked is all I can say”.
Since authorities are still investigating the incident, details are scarce.
According to witnesses (via KTLA), when the gunman approached the classroom’s door, Mintz instructed his classmates to take cover before announcing, “You’re not getting by me”.
Freshman Evan Hocker tells Northwest News’ Lehman, “I heard gunshots and then someone, one of my teachers, said there was a shooting, and then we all just went into a closet with a group of people and locked the whole place down”.
The grandmother of one of the Oregon shooting victims says her granddaughter told her the gunman was singling out students who said they were Christian. On that dating site, Harper-Mercer makes it clear that he hated organized religion but regarded himself as a spiritual person. Rather, they say they want to focus on the victims and the survivors first.

President Barack Obama is ordering that American flags be flown at half-mast in honour of the victims of the mass shooting at the college in Roseburg. Merkley says he’s been in touch with local officials to express his condolences and offer assistance. But they said the time will soon come to talk about how to prevent these events from occurring in the future.
