Some people in Spain agree that national team coach Julen Lopetegui had to go. We wish him the best of luck, ‘ he said.

Rubiales had been riled by being told of Lopetegui’s decision to take the Real job just five minutes before it was made public. “There’s a way to act that needs to be fulfilled”.

President of the Spanish FA Luis Rubiales has said that he had no choice but to sack Lopetegui, despite the World Cup starting tomorrow, and insisted he wanted a national team that represented all Spaniards.

Spanish national team defender Gerard Pique is calling upon his team to emulate the 1989 MI basketball team ahead of this year’s World Cup.

After short spells at Rayo Vallecano and with Madrid’s youth team Real Madrid Castilla, Lopetegui enjoyed a successful time with Spain’s under-19s and under-21s.

Spain sporting director Fernando Hierro and Under-21 coach Albert Celades have been tipped to take over for at least the World Cup. Zidane announced his surprising resignation two weeks ago.

Suggestions first emerged early on Wednesday that Rubiales was not happy with the situation and would remove Lopetegui just two days before Spain’s Group B opener against Portugal.

In fact, his overall record with Spain heading into this World Cup campaign was exceptional.

Spain, the 2010 winners, are third favorites to win this year’s competition, according to bookmaker SkyBet.

Santos said Portugal can be considered a “candidate” for the title in Russian Federation, but it still shouldn’t be included among the top contenders despite being European champions.

There were fears his appointment could open up old divisions between the Real Madrid and Barcelona factions in the Spain squad.

“We are going to touch as little as possible”. We are working on it.

Lopetegui’s shock departure has put La Roja in a hard situation, who have since announced Fernando Hierro as head coach for the World Cup in Russian Federation, but Xavi was not impressed by how things were handled.

It’s quite stunning news and certainly is a massive distraction for this team.

“I’m sure this will, in time, make us stronger”.
