Bregman called up to Astros
Alex Bregman’s major league debut with the Houston Astros finished rather uneventful as the rookie finished hitless in an Astros 2-1 loss to the New York Yankees at Minute Maid Park. “He’s doing OK”, manager A.J. Hinch said. The Astros will purchase Bregman’s contract and designate infielder Danny Worth for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster.

Although they have been playing like the best team in baseball for some time, the Houston Astros may be on the verge of getting better. We’re rolling along pretty well and he doesn’t have to come up here and be anything but himself and contribute at a couple of different position.
Bregman came to the plate following the Valbuena walk, but his long fly ball to right field died at the warning track and fell into Hicks’ glove.
“I said, ‘Big Mike, keep it real, keep it calm, ‘ ” Romine said.
Alex Bregman is the newest member of the Houston Astros. Bregman, the No. 2 overall selection in the 2015 MLB Draft, was a two-time first-team all-American at LSU, and he was named the recipient of the 2013 Brooks Wallace Award as the nation’s best shortstop. In 2016 with the Corpus Christi Hooks and Fresno Grizzlies, he bat. Before that, Bregman hit. He allowed an RBI single to Headley in the fifth inning immediately after Didi Gregorius doubled with two outs to surrender his one-run lead. Bregman has been tearing it up in Triple-A Fresno with a. 333 average, six home runs, and 15 RBIs in 18 games. The Astros began testing Bregman at third base in mid-May and left field just last week, and the natural shortstop will likely garner most of his starts at those two positions.
It was an adjustment that helped Bregman reach the Major Leagues in the fastest way possible.

For Bregman, the early portion of his debut featured nifty glove work at third base. Hinch mentioned that he got a few more games, but now it was his time to join the Astros.
