Brendan Rodgers: It was really a good performance

I think we deserve to have more points on the board than we actually have, but we have to take that on the chin and we have to look to the next game.

Manchester City later won their game in hand and eventually ended up winning the title by two points, as the match against the Blues turned after Gerrard’s horrific slip, on the brink of half-time.

Brendan Rodgers came out fighting following Liverpool’s victory over Aston Villa on Saturday, the Echo report.

“But the hysteria around ourselves is obviously interesting to note”.

“From myself and the players we are staying very calm and working hard every day knowing that we will get our rewards for it”.

“But he [Rodgers] has shown he is a top-class manager and, with the players we have, we can get to where we want to be with patience”. I know last season and this there have been a lot of things going against us, but we’ve always managed to stick together and improve together.

It was the first time the Reds scored three goals in one game since a 3-2 win over Tottenham last February.

“It’s a good performance but we can’t get carried away”.

“There are a few very short memories in football and we built and produced a team to excite people throughout Europe and that should have won the league”.

Despite this, Milner, who joined the Reds from Manchester City in the off-season, has said that he has been impressed with Rodgers’ managerial style since arriving at Anfield.

“But Daniel Sturridge has shown over his time here that he is a really top talent”.

“Of course there’s a lot of hysteria and I think that continues”. But he is believed to be aggrieved with the number of former Liverpool players turned media pundits who have criticised his team’s poor form and results in recent weeks.

Midfielder Milner steered a left-footed strike low beyond the reach of Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan from the edge of the area in the second minute of the game, before Daniel Sturridge scored twice.

Rodgers added: “He gives you a big opportunity to win games and compete at the top end of the table”.

“He’s probably disappointed he didn’t have a hat-trick, but his overall game and touch and finishes were outstanding”. The club decided it was the best way to go forward and that comes with ups and downs.
