Brett Favre to enter the Packers Hall of Fame

There’s no other place in professional sports like Green Bay, and that showed on Saturday.

“When (Favre) held that helmet in his hands when he was running off the field after that touchdown, I knew that would be something that would spark his fame”, he said. “He had a rocket for an arm, an unreal touch and, in my mind, he was the best player in the ’91 draft”. After almost making the Super Bowl, the Vikings collapsed the following year. Favre believed the two could have won more than just one championship had they remained together in Green Bay. Eddie Favre, Brett’s 9th and 10th grade teacher, said, “I’ve always suspected it because he had a God-given ability and he could throw a football like somebody would a baseball”. “We were such a good team, not because of great individuals”.

“All my dreams have come true and then some”. “We used to have a good time cutting up with all the coaches”. “And he put us back on the winning track”.

Now 45, Favre will also participate in a charity flag football game Sunday at the University of Wisconsin’s Camp Randall Stadium. The quarterback was introduced at the event by his former roommate, center Frank Winters.

“This is kind of Brett Favre overkill, but I’m honored by it”, Favre said. “I saw the ultimate competitor”.

Arnsparger was LSU’s head coach from 1984-86, leading the Tigers to two Southeastern Conference titles in three season before leaving to become Florida’s athletic director. But if there was any lingering bad blood, it wasn’t apparent Saturday. It was then that he acknowledged that he never expected the response he got from a crowd that bought up the 67,000 available tickets in a matter of hours. Ticket brokers said just $1 can get Favre fans inside Lambeau Saturday.

They have to understand that the man built a Hall of Fame career in that organization. Of course, Green Bay’s on-field success since Favre’s departure has certainly helped smooth things over. He completed his coaching career as the San Diego Chargers’ defensive coordinator in 1992-94. “It really didn’t hit me”. And I’ll be honest with you – I mean no disrespect by this – I am more honored by that than by the Hall of Fame induction in itself.
