Brewers call up OF Santana

Milwaukee is now 16-12 against teams from the N.L. East – their only winning record against any division in the league. It comes down to they have guys who aren’t doing it right now.

Khris Davis, the Milwaukee left fielder, said facing a pennant contender is good motivation.

“I just can’t explain how I feel right now”, Santana said. “Nobody does”. He has allowed 11 runs (10 earned) in his past two starts. “That is why we play 162”, Fister said.

“It’s a loss. We will come back tomorrow”, said Harper, who has carried the Nationals offensively this year. “They’re trying to get it in on you so you can’t drive something into the outfield”. He wasn’t as sharp in his fourth straight home outing Saturday, though he did pick up a 4-2 win over Philadelphia.

Gio Gonzalez (9-6) allowed five runs – four earned – over five innings, and the Brewers added a five-run seventh as Washington lost the opener of a nine-game homestand following a 3-7 West Coast trip that ended with a night game in Denver on Thursday. In the seventh inning, the Brewers scored five runs and two were unearned because of a catcher’s interference called against Lobaton and a throwing error by Harper.

Bryce Harper hit his 31st home run and Michael Taylor also homered for the Nationals, who entered Friday four games behind the NL East-leading New York Mets.

Turner went 0 for 2 after coming off the bench for his much-anticipated debut in Friday’s 10-3 defeat. “I wasn’t that nervous”.

Said manager Matt Williams of Turner’s debut on a double switch: “It’s not the ideal situation”. “He will have opportunities”.

Jonathan Lucroy went 2 for 4 against Ross, and had three of the Brewers’ 14 hits Friday as they won for the fifth time in the last seven contests. The next batter was center fielder Domingo Santana, who hit a two-run homer to left after getting called up from Triple-A Colorado Springs earlier in the day.

“(Nelson) kind of battled himself all night a little bit, but it’s still a good sign that he throws 6 2-3 innings and gives up two runs, ” Counsell said.

The 23-year-old slugger was one of the prospects the Brewers received from Houston in the haul for Carlos Gomez at the trade deadline. Fister struck out Santana with the bases full for the first out, but Gennett fouled off some tough pitches before lining an RBI single off Fister to set up the big inning.
