Brewers score in all 8 innings they bat, beat Braves

Braves: RHP Joel De La Cruz is hoping to be able to make his next start after leaving Wednesday’s game with a right knee contusion. The ball deflected to first baseman Freeman, who tagged Arcia to end the inning.

De La Cruz hobbled off the field under his own power.

Chase d’Arnaud pinch hit for De La Cruz in the fifth, and Chaz Roe replaced him on the mound.

De La Cruz allowed four runs and seven hits over four innings. Then, Scooter Gennett piled on with a solo home run in the third frame to extend Milwaukee’s lead to 4-0 and Hernan Perez followed that with another solo home run in the following inning to increase the margin to five.

Carter hit a two-run homer in the first.

Ryan Braun’s 19th home run of the season was the only run the Milwaukee Brewers could muster Tuesday, losing 2-1 to the Atlanta Braves.

Anderson ended his night going 5.1 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits with a walk and 3 strikeouts.

“It’s nice to get a few runs on the board”, Carter said.

Tyler Thornburg picked up his fourth save in eight chances with a ideal ninth. He walked two and struck out two in his third start since returning to the rotation.

Brewers manager Craig Counsell said he has a “good appreciation” for how hard it is for Rangers slugger Prince Fielder to be forced to quit baseball after a second neck surgery. Fielder spent his first seven major league seasons in Milwaukee, where he and Counsell were teammates from 2007-2011.

“I went through the same thing”, Counsell said.

Meanwhile, the Brewers are 15-32 in their last 47 game fours of a series, and 5-11 in their last 16 Thursday games.

RHP Julio Teheran (right lat strain) is scheduled for a side session Thursday.

Pierzynski caught his 1,933rd career game, the most among active catchers.

NOTES: Braves RHP Julio Teheran will throw a bullpen session this week, and if all goes well, will follow with a minor league rehab start as he works his way back from a strained right lat that has sidelined him since August 2. Brandon Cunniff was hit for three earned runs in 1 1/3 innings, Younginer gave up one run in 1 1/3 innings and Eric O’Flaherty allowed a run in one inning.

The Brewers held on from there with Tyler Thornburg coming on to close out the win. The Astros designated CF Carlos Gomez for assignment Wednesday after trading with the Brewers to get him last July. I know he’s had a rough year, but he’ll bounce back. “He enjoyed it here”.

NOTES: Milwaukee C Manny Pina got the start and spelled Martin Maldonado, who had gone the distance in seven of nine games – including a pair of extra-inning affairs – since Jonathan Lucroy was traded to Texas on August 1.

Braves: RHP Mike Foltynewicz (5-5, 4.37 ERA) will face Washington for the first time in his career Friday.
