Brewers trade Jeffress to Texas

The Texas Rangers, though still comfortably atop the American League West, had three priorities in the days winding down to Major League Baseball’s non-waiver trading deadline on Monday afternoon. The Yankees moved 4 veteran pieces this month Chapman to the Cubs Miller to the Indians, Nova to the Pirates and Beltran to the Rangers which signals the white flag being thrown and the Yankees looking toward 2017-2018 rather than trying to make the playoffs in 2016 but was it the right moves? In return, the Yankees got the fourth overall pick in the 2015 draft, Dillon Tate, a right-handed pitcher who looks to be a future starter for the Yankees.

The Yankees may get an A for this week’s trades, but I fully expect them to receive a D for what they do with those names that are in temporary pinstripes within the next year.

Well, Luhnow traded prospects last July for center fielder Carlos Gomez and right-hander Mike Fiers, and he traded prospects last off-season for reliever Ken Giles. NY agreed to send Texas cash to offset part of Beltrans $15 million salary. Venezuelan shortstop Gleyber Torres was obtained from the Chicago Cubs last week in the Chapman deal.

ARLINGTON, Texas — The AL West-leading Texas Rangers have acquired two-time All-Star catcher Jonathan Lucroy and closer Jeremy Jeffress from the Milwaukee Brewers in a trade for two former first-round picks.

To end yesterday’s trade deadline special, my guests for the final hour were Chris Lacey of NGSC Sports to talk about the Tyler Clippard trade from the Diamondbacks and Jason Evans from Call To The Pen to talk more about the Yankees trade deadline and who were the winners and losers around Major League Baseball.

The 30-year-old Lucroy is hitting. 299 with 13 homers and 50 RBIs this season.

“I think as a player, you know that this moment could happen”.

On his Twitter account after Monday’s deal to the Rangers, Lucroy wrote, “let’s take this bad boy to the ‘ship! I don’t view it that way at all”, the GM said. “For someone to reach out and come get me, it’s a really good feeling”.

If you’re the type that considers the “closer” role to be a real thing that matters, Jeffress will probably lose that coveted position – incumbent closer Sam Dyson is performing admirably this season, though he has hit some bumps in the road lately, surrendering an. Lucroy’s numbers have been better than the combined play that Bobby Wilson and Robinson Chirinos were performing at. While this definitely doesn’t make the team better, what it did was replenish a barren farm system. Remember: Aroldis Chapman, Mark Melancon, and Kenley Jansen all become free agents after this season.

Would the Rangers have liked a premier starting pitcher, too? But for the Red Sox getting a playoff spot this season would mean a chance to get a shot at the World Series as well. With the Astros losing three straight, the Rangers have pushed their division lead to six games, the biggest gap since the All-Star break after leading by as many as 10 games in late June.

In the league, I believe there are two players in recent history that are always a scary at bat and those two are “Big Papi” David Ortiz, and lethal switch hitter Carlos Beltran.

Originally drafted out of Iowa Western Community College, the Terrace Park, Ohio native is now in his third year in the minors, making appearances as high up as Triple-A where he pitched one inning for the Round Rock Express in 2015 and another inning in Double-A Frisco that same season. He ranks among National League leaders in saves (T5th) and games finished (4th, 40), and has the 10th-lowest ERA among N.L. relievers.
