Brian Hoyer gets starting QB job back for scuffling Texans

The veteran replaced Ryan Mallett in the second quarter of Thursday night’s loss to Indianapolis. Did he expect to go back in?

Mallett said he liked the way he was playing before he left the game. “I did”, he said.

Mallett appeared able to return to action early during the scoring drive, standing alone on the sideline with his helmet on as the Texans marched downfield. Before coming out, Mallet was 7 of 10 for 50 yards and an interception.

Hoyer finished the first half 8 of 13 for 127 yards and one touchdown. “I haven’t even talked to the staff yet about it. We’ll sit down and review the film”. I think over the last two games, he’s gone in there with a really good attitude, with a calmness about him.

The flip-flop at the quarterback position is taking a toll on Houston. Colts linebacker Sio Moore was called for roughing the passer on the play.

While his grandmothers seem to see little fault in their grandson, Mallett may at least have an inkling of what needs to be improved in his game. He probably wants to have that one back, but I thought he did a good job. “He was getting into a rhythm, so I stuck with Brian there”. Mallett also left the field before the Texans kicked the extra point following their Hail Mary touchdown in the final seconds of the first half. Though Hoyer had been named the starter to begin the season, he had turned over the ball twice inside the Texans’ 15-yard line.

He said he thought the team started out well prior to his interception.

With Mallett starting, the Texans (1-4) beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and lost to the Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons. The quarterbacks will once again wait and stay ready.
