Alberta Wildrose Leader Brian Jean walks through the crowd after being declared the official opposition in Fort McMurray, Alta., on Tuesday May 5, 2015.

“For someone of that status to make a comment like that, it doesn’t bode well with me and I’m sure it doesn’t with anyone else trying to achieve what we’re trying to achieve today – which is women being successful in a male-dominated world”, she added.

She says Albertans must continue to hold all politicians to a high standard of discourse and, while it’s OK to disagree, it must be done respectfully.

At that event, Jean told the audience he will continue to “beat the drum” on critical issues, but said it’s against the law to beat Notley.

“I made an inappropriate attempt at humour that I promptly apologized for, ” Jean said in a statement issued Wednesday by the Wildrose party. Jean even led the room in applauding the premier’s work. During the public uproar of her government’s introduction of farm safety legislation past year, she even received death threats.

Premier Notley has also been the subject of violent online threats on social media.
