Brie Larson Joins Hiddleston In New Kong Movie

It is now being reported that the Trainwreck co-star may be close to landing the lead female role in, Deadline reports.

After losing a couple of key players, casting for “Kong: Skull Island” is back on track. In that Oscar-tipped drama, she’ll play a mother who is imprisoned in a shed and raises her young son there over multiple years, attempting to stay alive despite the danger posed by the individual who’s holding them hostage.

Following the exit of both J.K. Simmons and Michael Keaton, the cast for Legendary Pictures and Universal’s Kong: Skull Island was starting to look bare bones. She also just finished filming the Martin Scorsese-produced Free Fire, which is expected to be released at film festivals within the next couple of months.

One actor [Legendary Pictures is] courting hard for one of those roles is Russell Crowe, but it won’t be clear whether or not that happens until the next script draft comes in. This movie will not have anything to do with Peter Jackson’s 2005 film, “King Kong“, which featured Jack Black and Adrien Brody in leading roles.

Kong: Skull Island” is poised to be a 3-D origin story surrounding the giant mammalian monster, featuring a team of explorers that make way into his island homeland and unleash the beast, so to speak.

The movie has been scheduled for a March 10, 2017 release, and the plan is to begin production either later this year or in early 2016.
