Brighton Sign Manchester United Striker Wilson on Season-Long Loan

Hughton is delighted to have brought Wilson in on loan and told the Seagulls’ official website: “We have been keen to add a striker, and James has been our number one target for some time, so we are absolutely delighted to have completed the deal”.

“He’s an exciting young striker and we hope that this move will prove to be very good for all parties involved”.

The young English forward burst onto the scene at the start of last season, but would ultimately fall out of the first team picture at Old Trafford as the campaign progressed.

19-year-old Wilson has been given just eight minutes of Premier League action this season, and has played a grand total of 54 minutes in all competitions, despite United’s injury concerns in attack.

But United legend Neville insists it is a good thing that the teenager will be gaining some first-team experience.

Wilson, starved of Premier League opportunities so far under Louis Van Gaal, will now be hoping to follow suit, much to the delight of Chris Hughton.

Wilson is a product of United’s vaunted academy and has been touted as a future great after impressing with the youth sides in the past few seasons.

On Friday, van Gaal was forced to defend his decision to loan out the 19-year-old.

Wilson has made just two appearances for the Red Devils this season as a substitute against Arsenal and in the League Cup defeat to Middlesbrough.
