A heatwave over the past week has killed at least 93 people in Egypt, the state news agency says, with temperatures set to remain high over coming days.

Weather forecasters say the temperatures will start dropping later this month.
Detainees and older people are members of two of the groups at the greatest risk of death during the heat wave.
In addition, 191 were hospitalised on Friday after experiencing heat-related stress, including 85 from the Upper Egypt governorate of Sohag alone.
Egyptian summers are usually hot, but temperatures this week soared to 46 degrees Celsius (114 degrees Fahrenheit) in the country’s south.
Several hundred people suffering heat exhaustion have been admitted to hospitals, and this figure appears likely to grow as temperatures in Cairo are expected to be in the area of 107 degrees Fahrenheit Sunday.

The Health Ministry has repeatedly warned senior citizens and people with chronic diseases, calling on them to avoid direct exposure to sunlight, particularly at noon and to take protective measures.
