“You can see it all across southern Europe and you can see it, alas, in this country as well”, he said.
European laws designed to create a “digital single market” across the EU could take a particularly big hit should the United Kingdom leave.
They say that only a Brexit can restore British sovereignty and effectively clamp down on immigration. Touring the Billingsgate Fish Market, Johnson mugged for the cameras with fish in hand – a not-so-subtle reminder that this is an island nation – and one very proud of its independence and self-assurance. “It’s time to have a totally new relationship with our friends and partners across the Channel”.
A wait-and-see mood was expected to prevail through the rest of the day, dotted by possible bouts of volatility, as the market nervously awaited the British poll results.
To accommodate the record numbers, some schools shut down to serve as polling stations, but it was class as usual for others. She had been an outspoken supporter of migrants.
Wednesday would have been her 42nd birthday and a series of commemorative events were being held in Britain and around the world. Others say it’s not out of the question that Brits could find themselves going back to the ballot box in a few years’ time if buyer’s remorse sets in.
The poster, labeled racist by opponents, was unveiled hours before Cox was killed.
“Personally I feel like as a student, it’d be a lot easier to go traveling if we stayed in the EU”. Unlike in an election where the results can be reversed in the next term, the vote is final. The results, however, are not legally binding with the British Parliament, according to newspaper reports.
In I975, Britain voted in a referendum to stay in the European Economic Community (EEC as the EU was known then) two years after joining the EEC. Much of the debate has boiled down to two issues: Economy and immigration.
The man charged with her murder, asked his name in a London court, responded: “My name is death to traitors, freedom for Britain”.
Out on the campaign trail, he added: “If we want a bigger economy and more jobs, we are better if we do it together”.
Similar letters have been released in the course of the acrimonious campaign. The time of the official announcement is yet to be determined, based on the actual number of people who turn out to vote.
Exit polls on the eve of the referendum on Wednesday support Britain leaving the European Union, according to AFP news agency late Wednesday night. European Union membership is good for business and good for British jobs. “That’s why, on June 23, we back Britain remaining in the European Union”.
Among the companies represented were Barclays, Standard Life and Anglo-American.
Britons in general have no great love of the European Union and for most people in the past decade it has been a side issue. “The European market would potentially become a much more hostile place”.
The head of the European Central Bank, Mario Draghi, also said the consequences of a vote to leave would be hard to assess.

Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto on Thursday described Britain as a “pragmatic voice” in the debate about the future of the European Union, often in line with Hungary’s vision of the 28-member bloc, adding that its exit would be “contradictory” from a political and economic perspective. The betting markets are also solidly on the Remain side: the Betfair exchange said Remain was 76 percent probability. In a statement, it said some 80 per cent of the 1 million pounds placed during and after a BBC debate on the issue Tuesday were for “remain”.
